HDNet has done something spectacular for the world of pro wrestling. They have devoted an entire hour to actual wrestling and given ROH full creative control.
Wrestlers such as Colt Cabana and Austin Aries are given an opportunity to showcase their talents to the fullest.
ROH has developed a loyal fan base and it appears it is attracting the MMA audience to some extent. ROH films its show the way that wrestling used to be shown in the early years of pro wrestling.
The action in the ring is taken seriously and the announcers stick to the match rather than on focusing on different angles. ROH has proven that it is a alternative to WWE and TNA programming.
The most recent Monday episode of ROH wrestling introduced a feud between Colt Cabana and Steve Corino. The show did have some backstage segments but they were action packed or very brief interviews. Jim Cornette has taken ownership of his character and comes across as a good leadership figure within the company.
It should be noted though that despite the quality wrestling in ROH HDNet there are still many problems. The show does not have enough time to build angles, since it is one hour dominated by wrestling.
Even though the action is great I feel that a emotional connection is lacking between the newly introduced characters and the audiance. It is refreshing yet worrisome to see a wrestling company that focuses purely on the in ring work. I feel that every match is amazing but little is left to offer in terms of PPV without a proper creative build up.
