Welcome ladies and gentlemen, to Friday Night Smackdown!!
The show opens up with a recap of the recent problems between Batista and The Undertaker. Batista’s music hits, and The Animal makes his way to the ring to a chorus of boos.
We are made aware that Batista does not care about any of us. He didn’t hear us when he was getting cheered, and he sure doesn’t hear us now. He was born to be the World Heavyweight champion, and that is the reason he is here. He asks for a spotlight to be put on him, and tells us it is all about him. He also speaks briefly about his disdain for The Undertaker and Rey Mysterio.
Matt Hardy and R-Truth vs. CM Punk and Luke Gallows:
CM Punk goes on his usually diatribe about how straight edge is the way to live and the rest of the drug addicts and alcoholics in the building are worthless. He has with him a copy of the new Jeff Hardy dvd, and he equates it to poison. He bashes all the parents out there purchasing the dvd for their children. They are bad parents and are feeding their children lies.
R-Truth’s music hits, and he comes out along with Matt singing “What’s Up” Matt has a bag with him and it seems to contain a bunch of Jeff Hardy dvd’s, and he’s giving them out to the fans. This drives Punk wild. Before the bell rings, Truth drills Punk in the head with the microphone, sending him out to the ringside floor.
The match begins, and Hardy and Truth are pulling off some nice double team moves on Punk. Gallows makes his way into the match and he and Punk are taking it to Truth. They work him over for a few minutes, until Matt finally gets tagged in and starts cleaning house. Some back and forth between Matt and Punk, and Hardy manages to counter the “GTS” and hit Punk with a “Twist of Fate”. He goes for a pin, but Gallows was the legal man after a quick tag, and he hits an unsuspecting Hardy with his finisher “The Gallows Pole”. Punk and Gallows win the match.
Kane and Mike Knox are shown backstage, with Knox trying to make nice with the Big Red Monster. He tells him they are much alike, until Kane tells him there is only one monster on Smackdown, and that’s him.
We also see Vickie Guerrero bickering with her ex boyfriend Eric Escobar. Teddy Long is also with them, amused by their antics. Escobar is making some remarks in Spanish, which translate to not such nice things about Vickie. In a screaming fit, Vickie tells Escobar to go to the ring for his match against Chris Jericho.
A few moments into the match, with Escobar looking as good as he has so far in his time with the WWE, and Vickie comes out. She tells Eric she forgot to mention, this is a handicap match. Enter the Big Show. Escobar gets pounded by Show for a few moments, and Jericho re-enters the match. He immediately puts him into the “Walls of Jericho” and Escobar taps. A brief and uneventful match to say the least. Jericho then goes on to tell us how we will see the end of DeGeneration X at the TLC pay per view on Sunday.
Next up is a face-off between Drew McIntyre and John Morrison.
McIntyre speaks about how disappointed he is that Mr. McMahon neglected to put him on the cover of the new WWE magazine, which features Morrison and a few others as future WWE champions. He then proclaims he will be the next Intercontinental champion.
John Morrison makes his way to the ring. In a parody of Mel Gibson’s famous movie Braveheart, he is dressed in a kilt, with his face painted blue and white, yielding a sword. He is William Wallace, one of Scotland’s greatest heroes.
Morrison speaks with a Scottish accent, and it drives McIntyre crazy. He is demanding Morrison stops and shows him some respect. The two argue a little back and forth, and Morrison gets a few shots in on McIntyre before he retreats from the ring. This should be an interesting match on Sunday.
Kane vs. Mike Knox:
The two behemoths go back and forth for a bit, both utilizing power moves. Knox hits a nice flying cross body on Kane for a two count. Moments later Kane hits a chokeslam for the 1-2-3. Kane is the winner of a very short match.
We are shown the DX/Hornswaggle clip that took place during Monday Night Raw. DX is hawking their merchandise for the Christmas season, and Hornswaggle pops out of a box that Triple H gave to Shawn Michaels as a Christmas gift. Hornswaggle is wearing a new DX shirt which features him along with HHH and HBK. He then climbs the Christmas tree to get HBK’s hat, jumps off onto DX and gives them the crotch chop. HHH tells HBK it’s the gift that keeps on giving.
Mickie James and Maria vs. Michelle McCool and Layla:
McCool and Layla are sporting their Piggy James t-shirts. A very quick match takes place, with Mickie getting a roll up pin on Layla after she accidentally knocked her partner out of the ring. Mickie and Maria are the winners.
Lots of very short matches happening tonight, I guess everyone is resting up for TLC.
After the Raw Rebound is shown, recapping Mark Cubans hosting duties on Raw, Matt Striker and Todd Grisham are in the ring to give us the rundown for TLC. They go over the matches that are to take place Sunday night.
Rey Mysterio vs. Batista in a street fight:
Batista has control of this match early on, but Mysterio mounts a comeback using his speed and agility. Batista brings a steel chair into the ring, and attempts to powerbomb Myserio onto it. Rey counters the move and hits Batista with a drop toe hold. Batista comes down face first on the chair, which enables Rey to hit his 619/West Coast Pop combo. Rey blasts the Animal with the chair, but then gets speared violently, causing him to lose his weapon. Batista now in full control, hits Rey with a spinebuster, and then nails him with the chair. He then places the chair around Rey’s neck, but before he could finish him, the lights go out. Moments later, when the lights come back on, Rey is gone and Undertaker is in the ring. After a few fists to the face, Batista runs out of the ring. Undertaker, with his chair firm in hand, is ready for their chair match at TLC.
A very uneventful Smackdown if you ask me. No Hart Dynasty, Dolph Ziggler, Finlay, or Cryme Time. The matches were every short and stale. Let’s hope this is due to everyone getting a rest in order to put on a great show this Sunday night at TLC
