Ring Rap With Matt: Hulkamania Tour, UFC, And more!!

Hello everyone. I would like to welcome all of you to another edition of Ring Rap. We have a lot of news to go over with you today. I will now be combining MMA, wrestling, and boxing news to my column.

Has the WWE given up on Jack Swagger?

We are getting reports from various sources that the WWE is just about done pushing Swagger. When he came out of ECW people thought he was a definite star of the future. The one big knock on Swagger was his ability on the stick.

While I don’t know if I believe these reports, considering Swaggers in ring ability I find it hard to believe they would waste him away. It does seem that Swagger has not been in the spotlight as of late. I’m sure this is reason people are saying these things.

I will believe this when I see him put back on ECW, or he is just strait out released from the WWE. A good ring worker like him is very hard to come by in wrestling. If they are foolish enough to release him, I am sure he will have no trouble finding work elsewhere.

Hulkamania tour

When the first announcement was made that Hulk Hogan was putting a tour together in Australia there was a lot of buzz. A lot of big named wrestlers signed up and people thought that it was going to be an instant hit. It seems though that has not been nearly the case.

In fact many of the local promoters, who paid cash in advance to get these guys, are extremely unhappy with the turnouts. It is being reported that some of the shows were drawing less than 3000 people. Those are certainly the kind of numbers that will dampen any promoter’s spirits.

An update on Shane McMahon and UFC

It is being said that the stock Shane has sold has nothing to do with him attempting to buy into UFC. I won’t believe that Shane has interest in the company until I hear it announced from him or UFC. UFC has been trying to shake away any wrestling comparisons for years now.

The UFC is hoping for a March 2010 date for Georges St. Pierre’s title defense against contender Dan Hardy. If that is agreed by both sides, the match up would likely be the main event of UFC 111, which is should take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

The injuries are forcing many changes to a major UFC event UFC 108. Heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga will miss his in Las Vegas against Junior Dos Santos because of a staph infection. This is said to be confirmed by Dana White.

Also out is UFC   UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida, heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar,   UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva, and PRIDE’s Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
